Ever since my mid-twenties I have cooked for fun in the French style, additionally influenced by the 1960s cookery writings of Elizabeth David, who was passionate about French and continental cookery. I have close family who have lived in the Jura foothills since I was 12. On many visits to France, I have stored away recipe ideas from restaurant meals I have eaten. Many times I would say ‘If ever I open a French Restaurant, that dish will be on the menu…’
In November 2010, my first ever visit to the Lord Clyde pub on Walmer seafront chanced to be a fortnight before it was closing permanently, and it was up for sale. The rest is history. Two weeks later I had settled the deal to buy it, and following 14 months of converting the building, La Bouche was born on 6th March 2012.
Now I can share my enthusiasm for French cuisine with the people of Deal and Walmer, and visitors to the town. My wife (Jane) and I are committed to the aim of giving our customers authentic French Provincial cuisine, at reasonable prices, in a comfortable and friendly setting.
